Portland Waterfront Food Drive Final Push

Food Crisis Mounts.  Multnomah County Commissioner Calls for Action

Multnomah County Chair Ted Wheeler urges action:

'Imagine how tough it is for the family that has to make the decision of whether to pay the electric bill or buy groceries'  He noted that helping agencies always experience a sharp decline in donations right after the holidays but that this year needs are greater due to the economic downturn and the recent harsh weather.  'Whatever the economy is doing to each of us right now,  I still think that we - as residents of Multnomah County - can do more to help.  That's why I'm issuing this challenge to those county residents who are doing OK and to the employees who work for this county:  Take action and help someone in need,' said Wheeler.

“Hunger doesn't stop with the holidays. As unemployment climbs, so does the number of people who are hungry," said Rachel Bristol, executive director and CEO of Oregon Food Bank. "Hundreds of new families are walking in the doors of local food pantries ... people who have never had to ask for help before ... people who just a few months ago had family-wage jobs and have been laid off. At the same time, the struggle just gets worse for our senior citizens on fixed and now declining incomes, the disabled and working poor.”

The Portland Waterfront Food Drive has gone reasonably well despite the challenging weather over the holidays.  But the food shortages in Portland's food panties continue to worsen.  Portland Waterfront Association members are committed to answering this call and supporting the Oregon Food Bank.  We ask everyone to give generously to this worthy cause.

    KeyBank-Portland Waterfront Food Drive

Most of us don’t have to worry about how we’re going to feed our families, but a growing number of Oregonians are in that exact position this winter.  Please help us fight hunger by donating canned foods such as tuna, veggies, peanut butter, etc... For these families in need, it’s not a food box, it’s a lifeline for up to five days.
